Happy New Year! 2020 is here. Is this the year you commit to living your life to the fullest? Are you ready to launch that business you have been dreaming about to make this year your best year ever?

Many of us start the year making a list of goals and plan to accomplish them. How did you go last year? The good news is that we have another opportunity. Only this time, if you are as serious as I am; we are choosing to make this year the best for us.

What is getting in the way? For me, it was my mindset. I didn’t believe I could build a successful business, and I knew I needed to work on my mindset.

In this article, I would like to share six tips that have been helping me, and the valuable information I have been getting from books and mentors to make 2020 the best year ever in business.

Having the right mindset is the central quality required for every entrepreneur.

Keeping a positive attitude is a top priority for us if we want to achieve our entrepreneurial aspirations.

Developing a healthy self-esteem is essential for our daily self-dialogue and strengthens our most in-depth beliefs, attitudes, and feelings about ourselves.

Monitor your thoughts and plant seeds of positivity and inspiration. You need a healthy mindset to achieve those powerful and empowering goals you set for yourself.

Have you ever experienced difficulty in focusing on the task at hand?

This has been one of my challenges. I am a full-time caregiver, and I am in charge of the whole management and household duties. I often think of several things at once, and as a result, I get easily distracted. Doing many things at the same time only adds confusion.

“Success Is simple. Do what’s right, the right way, at the right time.” – Arnold H. Glasow.

The One Thing Book by Gary Keller with Jay Papasan suggests that to make most of our time, we need to ask the Focusing Question:

What is the ONE thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?

The focusing question is the foundational habit to achieve extraordinary results and lead a big life.

Apply it to the most important areas of your life: your spiritual life, physical health, personal life, key relationships, job, business, and financial life.

Doing that brings clarity, power, and speed. Identify what it is you most want and give it your attention, and, therefore, draw power unto that.

Meditation purifies and nourishes from within, keeps you calm, increases your attention span, and can bring about a real personal transformation.

Gently focus on your breathing and allow the feelings of relaxation.

Meditation allows the opening of your passageway so you may blend the Inner You with the conscious physical you.

Learning to meditate is like learning any other skill.  It takes consistent practice to get comfortable.

There’s no such thing as perfect meditation. Sometimes we lose focus and wander, or we forget to breathe. Teachers say it is part of the experience.

Here’s a step-by-step process by Eckhart Tolle’s on how to take control of our thoughts:

  • Avoid Seeking too much input from your mind. Focus on observing, rather than actively thinking.
  • Focus on feeling your body.
  • One strategy is to be aware of the energy you feel in your hands. Try to feel the energy in your feet.
  • Feel the aliveness in your body. It will help your body and your senses, as opposed to your thoughts.

Working out first thing in the morning promotes mental clarity, improves your attention span, and increases energy.

Exercise not only strengthens muscles but improves brainpower. A 2012 study by the Montreal Heart Institute showed that aerobic exercise increased cognitive function. This is because exercise increases blood flow to your brain, meaning a jog might be just what you need before a brainstorming session.

Physical activity reduces stress hormones and increases the production of endorphins. Getting in a workout, whether before work or during the workday, can allow you to approach your work with a relaxed mindset.

Whether building a business or going through a rough patch, even the smallest fitness win can help you gain the confidence you need to achieve larger goals in your business life.

A basket with books, a cup of coffee and a plantMore often than not, most of us establish a comfortable routine with our family and friends that we forget to engage in activities that challenge our brains.

As people age, they become less active physically and mentally. But by repeatedly engaging in the right activities, anyone can increase memory function and boost creativity.

Some activities to keep your mind active are:

  • Reading a book
  • Learning a new skill
  • Playing your favourite sport
  • Playing games that challenge your mind
  • Learning a new language
  • Learning to play an instrument
