Do any of these thoughts sound familiar?

  • What if I don’t measure up?
  • What if I fail again?
  • What if it doesn’t work out?

At some point, we experience some form of doubt in ourselves, but it serves no purpose at all.

Self-doubt has been my companion for many years. Every time I have moved away from my comfort zone, doubts have been right beside me.

When I travelled from Mexico to England to learn English, I was full of high hopes and expectations. It was not easy at the beginning, I could hardly understand anyone, and it was a challenge to express myself in a foreign language.

IQ is not the only difference between successful students and those who struggle.

In education, understanding of students and learning from a motivational and a psychological perspective is much better, according to Angela Lee Duckworth.

Angela Lee Duckworth (born 1970) is an American academic, psychologist and popular science author. She is the Christopher H. Browne Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, where she studies grit and self-control.  She is also the Founder and CEO of Character Lab, a not-for-profit whose mission is to advance the science and practice of character development.

In her Ted Talk, she poses the question: “What if doing well in school and in life depends on much more than your ability to learn quickly and easily?”

HAPPINESS IS ALL IN YOUR MIND – TEDx TALK

Gen Kelsang Nyema asked these easy questions in her TEDxGreenville 2014 Conference. Gen is an American Buddhist nun who believes the gift of happiness truly lies within our own hearts and minds.

She is a resident teacher in the New Kadampa Tradition, Gen Nyema aims to help seekers develop inner peace by offering meditation classes and practical Buddhist advice suitable for busy modern life.

Out of the three questions, Gen, said that the easiest one to answer, is the last because it is for sure that we all want to have a good day every day of our lives.

When we are happy, we have a good day, and this is the kind of happiness we wish for in our inner self.

Gen’s teacher, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, says: “Much of the time our mind is like a balloon in the wind, blown here and there by external circumstances.” Do you know that feeling?
